Originally from Long Beach, California, Chef Ross Mendoza started out his restaurant career by working simultaneously in two kitchens for the well-known Wolfgang Puck and under French Chef Andre Angles, a protegé of Roger Verge, while maintaining his nine to five job in the financial field. His goal was to fuel his desire for the food industry, as well as gain valuable experience before attending The Culinary Institute of America. After finishing culinary school, he trained under Chef Floyd Cardoz at the venerable Danny Meyer restaurant, Tabla, for seven years helping to maintain their New York Times 3-Star status. He then went on to help open ABC Kitchen (and subsequently ABC Cocina) under the guidance of Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Dan Kluger accumulating numerous accolades and awards including Best New Restaurant 2011 from The James Beard Foundation. Currently, he has taken the helm at Jean-Georges Chicago outpost, Pump Room at Public Chicago. (source: chicagogourmet.org)
